For Copywriters and Graphic Designers

How to Contact My Office

Copywriters and designers contact me all the time, yet few of them provide enough information to let me know whether it's worthwhile following up. And these people are supposed to be professionals at selling!

Please follow these guidelines if you want me to consider your qualifications to determine whether it's in both of our interests to work together:

  1. Email me. Please don't call out of the blue, because you're not likely to reach me and I probably won't have time to call you back.
  2. Send me enough information about yourself so I know who you are and what you can do. I don't need your whole life story, but see the questions below. And please don't send samples yet (your track record of results is more important anyway). If I think you could do good work for my clients, I'll get back to you within a week, either asking for more information or to set up a time to talk on the phone.
  3. If you don't hear back within a couple of weeks, email me again, with a reminder about your previous email and include the same information about yourself.

Here are some questions I'd like you to answer in your initial email to me:

  1. How long have you been a direct-response copywriter/designer? How long freelancing?
  2. Do you have a specialty?
  3. Have you written/designed financial or health packages?
  4. Have you written/designed magalogs?
  5. Who have you worked for?
  6. What kind of track record do you have? Any controls?
  7. How many pieces have your packages mailed?
  8. Do you ever collaborate with other writers or use copy chiefs to improve your packages? How do you feel about doing this?
  9. Do you act as a copy chief on other writers' packages? Are you able to critique, edit and polish other copywriters' writing?

Thank you for your interest in Finn Communications' services!
